Shanghai Metal Corporation is a leading Stainless Steel Round Bar manufacturer and supplier.
Stainless steel round bars are solid cylindrical bars made from stainless steel grades such as 304, 316, 321, 410, 420 and 430. They are supplied in hot-rolled, cold-drawn or forged forms, with different diameters, lengths and surface finishes including pickled, bright, peeled, ground and polished. These bars are commonly used for CNC machining parts, shafts, bolts, nuts, valve bodies, pump components, food processing equipment, chemical tanks, marine hardware, automotive parts and construction fittings. They are chosen to solve rust and corrosion problems in wet, chemical, outdoor or cleaning-intensive environments, to maintain strength at elevated temperatures, and to provide stable dimensions for automatic machining, welding and assembly. For manufacturers, using the correct stainless steel round bar grade and finish can reduce material waste, replacement frequency, equipment downtime and long-term maintenance cost in demanding working conditions.

Standard Packaging
Small-diameter bars (3–20 mm)
Straight lengths of 3–6 m. Each bundle contains 100–500 pcs and weighs 500–2,000 kg. Bundles are wrapped with anti-rust paper and PE film, fitted with plastic end caps, secured with 3–4 steel straps, and placed on fumigated wooden pallets. Pallet size: 1,100 × 1,100 mm; pallet length = bar length + 100 mm.
Medium-diameter bars (20–80 mm)
Each bundle contains 10–100 pcs and weighs 1,000–3,000 kg. Wrapped with anti-rust paper and PE film, protected with end caps, secured with 4–5 steel straps, and packed on wooden pallets or wooden cradles.
Large-diameter bars (80–500 mm)
Supplied as single bars or bundles of 1–10 pcs. Ends are protected with plastic caps or wooden boards. Bars are secured with steel straps and packed in wooden cases or wooden cradles. Typical wooden case weight: 1–5 MT. Final case dimensions and gross weight are confirmed on the packing list.
Marking
Each bundle or case is marked with grade, heat number, size, bundle/case number, net weight, gross weight, and customer PO number. Wooden packaging is fumigated and IPPC marked.

Q1: How long does sample preparation take?
A: Stock samples: 3–7 working days. Custom-cut or custom-grade samples: 7–15 working days after specification confirmation. Sample size is usually 1–3 pcs or 1–5 kg, depending on diameter. Courier cost is prepaid or collect.
Q2: What information do you need for a custom quotation?
A: Grade (e.g. 304/316L/2205), diameter, length, surface finish (hot-rolled, bright, peeled, ground, polished), tolerance (h9/h11/k11), quantity in kg or pcs, standard (ASTM/EN/JIS/GB), heat treatment (annealed, Q&T, aged), end processing, packing requirement, destination port, and trade term (EXW/FOB/CIF/DAP). Send drawings or MTC requirements if available.
Q3: What is the MOQ and production lead time?
A: Standard MOQ: 1,000 kg per size/grade. Trial orders or mixed sizes can be negotiated from 500 kg. Stock items: 3–7 working days. Standard production: 15–25 working days. Customized orders: 25–40 working days. Lead time starts after deposit or L/C and final specification confirmation.
Q4: What quality standards does the product meet?
A: ASTM A276/A479, EN 10088, JIS G4303, GB/T 1220. Mill test certificate EN 10204 3.1 is supplied with each shipment. ISO 9001 mill certificate, third-party inspection (SGS/BV), ROHS/REACH and certificate of origin are available upon request.
Q5: What is the difference between 304/304L and 316/316L stainless steel round bar?
A: 304/304L: 18% Cr, 8% Ni, general corrosion resistance, used for food, chemical, architectural and CNC parts. 316/316L: 16–18% Cr, 10–14% Ni, 2–3% Mo, better chloride pitting and crevice corrosion resistance, used for marine, chemical, medical and paper equipment. 316/316L costs more. Use 304 for mild indoor or normal chemical service; use 316 for salt, chloride, coastal or aggressive chemical environments.
Q6: Which grade should I choose for marine or chemical applications?
A: Marine: 316/316L for hardware, fasteners and shafts; 2205 duplex for higher strength and chloride stress corrosion resistance. Chemical: 316L for most acids and alkalis; 321 for high-temperature service; 2205 for chlorides and offshore; 17-4PH for high-strength pump shafts. Avoid 304 in chloride or salt-laden environments.
Q7: What surface finish and tolerance should I choose for CNC machining or pump shafts?
A: CNC machining: cold-drawn bright bar, h9 or h11, diameter 3–80 mm, grade 304/316/410/420/17-4PH. Pump shafts: peeled or ground bar, h9 or better, straightness controlled, grade 316/2205/17-4PH, annealed or Q&T. Food/medical: polished or ground surface, 304/316L. Hot-rolled black bar is only for further machining, not final precision parts.
